Camping water filters take the worry out of a vacation when you have to be constantly on the lookout for sources of pure water. If you are backpacking through another country or if you park your RV in out of the way places, then you need to be certain that you won't get sick from drinking the water. You do not have the option of turning on the tap when you are camping or boating and therefore need to know the advantages and disadvantages of the various filtration products that are available.

Portable RV & Boat water filters

The idea behind water filters is that they need to be portable - able to be carried from place to place very easily. If you are going on a camping trip, then you need to have a filtration system that is not too heavy or cumbersome to carry. You can boil all the water and then cool it, but if you are camping during hot weather, it will be very difficult to cool the water sufficiently that it will be enjoyable and help to cool your down.

A typical water filter for travel uses cartridges that filter the impurities out of the water and make it safe for drinking. Once the flow of water starts to slow down, then you will need to replace the filter. With the high amount of sediment that your find in ponds and streams this means you should always carry extra cartridges with you.

Simple Water Filters

One of the easiest methods of filtering water is to use a chemical treatment in the form of iodine tablets. A small bottle of these tablets does not add extra weight to your camp equipment. You can also use a wet filter. Although it works well, it has more disadvantages than other filtration systems. It is heavy, but you can take it apart to make it easier to carry. Then when you start to set up camp, you simply put the filter together in order to be able to use it.
