Boat Water Filters
Smooth Sailing with Clean Water!

Boat water filters are great to have on board your water vessel in order to make sure that your drinking water is safe to drink. Even though you are surrounded by water on a lake or ocean, you cannot drink it unless you use a filtration system. One of the best camping water filters on the market is the Katadyn water filter because of the superior service it provides. You can convert some of the worst water into safe drinking water by using one of these water treatment systems.

Water filters for boating have come a long way!

These water filtration systems are great, not just for boats, but for RVs and for camping trips as well. A typical water filter for travel uses cartridges that filter the impurities out and make it safe for drinking. Once the flow of water starts to slow down, then you will need to replace the filter. Therefore it is always a good idea to carry extra cartridges with you because of the high amount of sediment that is found in ponds, streams and lakes. Katadyn makes several types of purifiers such as:

  • Pocket water filters: These filters are very durable and will filter up to 13,000 gallons of water. It is a bit heavier than the Pur filter, but this is the one that the Red Cross uses for its workers in disaster zones. It will last a long time if you are in a place where you do not expect to have clean drinking water.
  • Hiking water filter: Great for short boat or hiking trips.
  • Camp microfilter: You can filter water anywhere with this system because all you have to do is fill it with water and hang it up, allowing gravity to filter out the impurities.
  • Guide water filter. A type of camp microfilter with a smooth action pump that provides more amounts of pure water with less effort.

Simple Water Filters

One of the easiest methods of filtering water while boating is to use a chemical treatment in the form of iodine tablets. A small bottle of these tablets does not add extra weight to your equipment. You can also use a wet filter. Although it works well, it is heavy, but you can take it apart to make it easier to carry.

Some of the impurities and harmful bacteria that a camp water filter will take out of the water for you include:

  • Fungi
  • Chlorine
  • Cholera
  • Parasites
  • Typhoid
  • Salmonella

So you can see that it is wise to have one with you whether you travel by land or by sea!
